Deputy Chief Benjamin Murphy has dedicated over 22 years to law enforcement, bringing a wealth of experience in administrative, operational, and tactical leadership assignments. His distinguished career is marked by his commitment to excellence and his ability to lead in various high-stakes environments.
Deputy Chief Murphy's professional credentials are extensive, having successfully completed several nationally recognized executive leadership programs. These include the prestigious FBI National Academy Session #278, the Southern Police Institute Session #79, and the Senior Management Institute for Policing Session #83.
Throughout his tenure, Deputy Chief Murphy has accumulated significant command-level experience across a broad spectrum of law enforcement functions. His supervisory and command roles have spanned multiple units, including Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Internal Affairs, and Professional Standards. Notably, his 11 years as a SWAT operator, team leader, and commander have honed his skills in high-tempo leadership, critical thinking, crisis management, and decision-making.
Deputy Chief Murphy is deeply committed to fostering community relations. He has volunteered extensively with various youth, cultural, and faith-based groups throughout his career. His dedication to mentoring is evident through the initiation of several programs within schools and for new officers. Additionally, he actively coaches and volunteers in numerous youth sports, including football, weightlifting, and girls lacrosse.
A strong advocate for professional development, Deputy Chief Murphy teaches and encourages others to pursue excellence. He is a certified CT POST Instructor in several specialized law enforcement areas and a valued faculty member at Dedication to Community (D2C), a national non-profit organization focused on bridging gaps between community and police. He also imparts leadership and executive insights through Team Training Associates.
Deputy Chief Murphy holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Charter Oak State College and a Master of Science in Counter Terrorism from Nichols College. His commitment to life-long learning and professional development has made him an exemplary leader within the department.
Currently, Deputy Chief Murphy serves as the Deputy Director of East Windsor's Emergency Management, where his expertise continues to enhance the safety and resilience of the community.
