Lieutenant Derek Leab began his law enforcement career in 2011 when he was hired as a Patrol Officer. Demonstrating strong leadership and a commitment to professional excellence, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2016 and to Lieutenant in 2024. He currently serves as the Patrol Lieutenant, Accreditation Manager, and Public Information Officer, where he plays a key role in guiding operations, ensuring compliance with best practices, and maintaining transparency with the public.
Lieutenant Leab spearheaded his department’s successful achievement of Tier 3 Accreditation, a milestone that reflects the agency’s dedication to the highest standards of policing and accountability.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Public Management, both from Westfield State University. A lifelong learner and advocate for professional development, Lieutenant Leab is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course, a 480-hour in-residence college-level program focused on developing informed, ethical, and technically proficient law enforcement managers. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course, a 400-hour program providing advanced instruction in practical law enforcement administration and management practices.
In 2018, Lieutenant Leab earned the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award, recognizing his completion of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s Supervisory, Command, and Executive Leadership courses.
Through his career, Lieutenant Leab has demonstrated a deep commitment to leadership, integrity, and continuous improvement in law enforcement operations and community engagement.
