East Windsor Cadets
The East Windsor Police Cadet program is an official program of the East Windsor Police Department and operates in collaboration with the North East Regional Law Enforcement Association (NERLEEA). The program is designed to expose young men and women, ages 12-20, within the East Windsor community to the vast responsibilities in law enforcement today. While participation does not assure future employment with a law enforcement agency, this program provides valuable skillsets as well as experience that will benefit our cadets in all future career endeavors.
Police cadets will learn both in the classroom and actual hands-on field experience to prepare them for a future career in law enforcement. The program also aims to develop, mentor, and promote leadership, personal growth, physical fitness, and social responsibility. Regular meeting presentations including training from sworn police officers on law enforcement duties, tactics, criminal and procedural law, forensic science, self-defense, and investigation techniques. Police cadets will have rank structure similar to that of the police department. The police cadets will assist officers in various community events and may participate in the department ride along program. Police cadets will also participate in regional training and competition events with other police cadet posts.
Police cadets are considered a great asset to the community of East Windsor and to the department. They will participate in community service, and supplement sworn officers’ efforts in service to the town. As such, police cadets are representatives of the East Windsor Police Department and have a responsibility to uphold the standards of our agency. Police cadets are not sworn police officers. They have no arrest powers and are not employed by the Town of East Windsor.
