Emergency planning should include every member in your household, including animals. The ASPCA and The Red Cross both offer comprehensive guidelines to make sure that your pet is prepared, along with the rest of your family, for emergencies.

Power outages can happen at any time of year and can disrupt individual households or entire communities. Any time a resident loses power, the first step of assessing your situation is making sure you are in a safe location to do so and will not come in contact with any downed power lines. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a program created in partnership with FEMA to educate volunteers about disaster preparedness for potential hazards in which they live.

CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. They are relied upon by professional responders during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.
