Patrol Operations

The East Windsor Police Department Patrol Division, commanded by a Lieutenant and reporting to the Operations Commander, is the backbone of the agency. Their vital mission includes responsibility for proactive and reactive efforts emphasizing protection of life and property, suppression of crime, enforcement of laws and ordinances, apprehension and prosecution of offenders, service to the community, and the safe, expeditious flow of traffic.

The Patrol Division consists of 3 shifts (working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year in all conditions) that are responsible for police operations within the five villages comprising the Town of East Windsor through officers being assigned to patrol districts. This includes directed patrols toward prevention of criminal activity and traffic accidents, maintaining public order, and the identification of hazard and safety concerns.

TRAFFIC

Traffic safety is an important concern of many East Windsor residents and business people, and it is of equal concern to the East Windsor Police Department. The Patrol Division is responsible for our traffic safety and enforcement initiatives. This also includes our Selective Traffic Enforcement Program referred to as STEP. Officers will focus directed traffic enforcement and safety initiatives in various areas of Town, reported by concerned citizens, in an effort to reduce traffic complaints and improve safety.  The purpose of traffic law enforcement is to reduce traffic accidents and injuries and to facilitate the safe and expeditious flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic through the public’s voluntary compliance with traffic regulations. The Patrol Division accomplishes this important goal through a combination of education and enforcement.

Another function of the Patrol Division is to investigate traffic accidents that occur within our jurisdictional boundaries. Depending on the severity, some traffic accidents may be investigated by patrol officers or METRO Traffic Services. METRO Traffic Services is a regional organization that consists of officers from East Windsor, Enfield, Manchester, South Windsor, Vernon, Coventry, and Glastonbury. This team of officers is called in to assist with serious and fatal motor vehicle crash scenes that occur in participating towns, as well as to assist during large enforcement events such as DUI checkpoints and seat belt spot checks.

NARCOTICS TASK FORCE

The East Windsor Police Department also has a special assignment position for Narcotics Task Force Officer. Task Force members sometimes work in conjunction with other local, state and federal agencies while investigating narcotic related crimes in their geographical area.

The Narcotics Task Force Officer is committed to addressing identified and emerging narcotic problems within the region/state and Town of East Windsor. The position is designed to proactively enforce narcotic laws, violations and due to the national epidemic, there is a strong need to assist people with locating and connecting them with counseling and/or social services.

The Patrol Division conducts initial investigations into all incidents. All reporting of incidents should be made through the dispatch center at (860) 292-8240 (or 911 for Emergencies) for proper police response.
